Originally, I thought he said we were going to look for Chad, of whom I knew nothing–which was about the same as what I knew about fishing for shad. Last weekend, our local fly fishing expert extraordinaire, Singlebarbed, was kind enough to invite me on a short road trip to a nearby river, to fish for something called a shad. I, on the other hand, just have to travel a short distance to not catch anything, as was the case recently. In other words, some hapless people travel miles and miles to not catch anything. That does not guarantee that fish catching is indeed involved in these travels I have often quipped that I am a great fisherman, but am quick to point out that I did not say I actually catch anything in the process.
One friend of mine just got back from a fly fishing adventure to Chile.Īnd another is plotting a trip to the famous fly fisheries of the Big Sky state of Montana. (I’m willing to concede an apparent insatiable appetite for cheap cigars to the latter group.)īut clearly, one area of common interest is a desire to visit beautiful rivers around the planet. The line between adventure-travelists, such as myself, and fly fishing fanatics may come down to which group has a more sophisticated palate for aged Scotch.
